Dilation and curettage (D&C) is a minor surgical procedure to remove tissue from the uterus. You may need this procedure if you have unexplained bleeding between your periods or if you have just given birth and placental tissues remain in the uterus. D&C is also used to remove pregnancy tissue remaining due to miscarriage. D&C can be done in the doctor's office or in a hospital. After the cervix is opened, the tissue in the uterus is removed with a suction tube or other special tools.
