Penile prosthesis, is a medical device that is surgically implanted inside the penis to treat erectile dysfunction (ED) in men. A penile prosthesis is typically made up of two or three components, including a fluid-filled reservoir that is implanted in the abdomen or scrotum, a pump that is implanted in the scrotum, and one or two flexible cylinders that are implanted inside the penis. When the patient wants to have an erection, they activate the pump, which sends fluid from the reservoir into the cylinders, causing the penis to become rigid and erect. Penile prosthesis surgery is typically recommended for men who have not had success with other treatments for ED, such as oral medications, penile injections, or vacuum erection devices.
