What is Urology?

Urology is a branch of science that deals with the medical and surgical treatment of kidneys, urinary canals called ureters, bladder, prostate, penis, sperm sacs, eggs and sperm ducts in men, and all kinds of diseases of organs other than sexual activity in women. Urologists deal with congenital abnormalities, inflammations, cancers and dysfunctions of these organs. Although urology is classified as a surgical specialty, internal medicine, pediatrics, gynecology and other specialist knowledge is required by the urologist due to the wide variety of clinical problems encountered.
