What is Gastroscopy?

Gastroscopy is the direct visual examination of the esophagus, stomach and duodenum. It is done to better understand the problem and to ensure its solution without delay. The stomach must be completely empty before the endoscopy procedure. Nothing should be eaten or drunk after midnight the previous evening. Gastroscopy procedure takes about 15 minutes. It can be performed under local or general anesthesia. If a piece is taken from the stomach during the procedure, it is sent for autopsy and a detailed examination is performed.

What is Gastroenterology?

Gastroenterology is the name of the department that examines the diseases of the esophagus, stomach, small and large intestines. Other organs that the gastroenterology department deals with are liver, spleen, gall bladder and pancreas. While diagnosing the diseases of these organs, procedures such as endoscopy, colonoscopy, ercp and ultrasound are applied. In the diagnosis and treatment of stones and cancers of the biliary tract, it is diagnosed and treated with a special endoscopy device called side-view duodenoscopy.
